This blog was founded on the idea of pursuing God for our purpose. Many of us over a certain age have yet to figure out what our purpose is and have found ourselves living without any intention, passion or purpose on a day-to-day basis. I believe that just because you don’t actually know your specific God-given purpose, you can still find ways every day to live and walk purposefully. 7 Daily Habits to Walk in Purpose

Set a Faith Goal

This was a difficult habit for me to develop. Being an independent-type spirit, I erroneously thought I was doing God a favor because I didn’t need anything from Him. So even when I set goals – big goals – I tried my best to accomplish them in my own will.

As I’m sure you know, that never turned out well!

A “Faith Goal” is a goal that requires you to trust God. It is something that you cannot accomplish on your own. This type of Goal really allows you to see the power of God in your life.

Implementing this daily habit will grow your faith by leaps and bounds!

Recite Biblical Affirmations

Affirming the Word of God in your life is critical to being a good wife, mother, employee, manager, business owner, etc.

When I was younger and in need of self-confidence, I used to repeat affirmations that weren’t based on the Word. They weren’t bad per se – but they weren’t really anchored to anything concrete that I could point back to.

When I started studying the Bible more, I realized that all of the things I was trying to convince myself of – God had already said about me in His word.

On this site and in our GreatBIG Library, you will find Biblical Affirmation posts and printables because I believe we can use them as another way to simply communicate with God throughout the day.

Recite Biblical Declarations

Biblical Declarations are similar to Biblical Affirmations in that they use the Word of God to speak over your life.

Declarations however, are more involved and more of a statement that helps you speak to a specific circumstance or situation using the Word of God.

Where an affirmation helps you affirm who you are and who God has called you to be, a declaration uses God’s promises and decrees to speak to circumstances that you may be struggling with or regarding a goal you are trying to achieve.

Using both of these is a powerful way to begin, continue and end your day.

Practice Deep Breathing

Deep breathing calms an anxious spirit and mind. Whenever I teach stress management in organizations, this is one of the practices I make sure that the participants implement in their daily routines. This gift of life lives within us each time we inhale and exhale.

Your deep breathing exercise can also be a moment of praise and worship when you realize this great gift of life He has given you.

You can also recite scripture or your theme word while you’re doing your deep breathing exercises to help you refocus  throughout the day.

Practice Releasing

Learning to release and let go of negativity at the end of your day will do wonders for you life!

We carry around so much garbage and baggage on a daily basis that we’ve become immune to it. This unawareness can lead to a negative attitude and then to negative actions.

At the end of each day or each week, think of things that bothered you, drained you or stole your peace – basically anything that hindered your relationship with God

You can say a prayer or write it down – or something totally different – it doesn’t matter.

The idea is to be mindful of the situations, habits, thoughts and ideas that come across your mind during your day or week and to give them to God so that you can start anew tomorrow.

Review Your Day with Questions

These are three questions to ask yourself at the end of each day.

  1. What did I do well today?
  2. Where is there some room for improvement?
  3. Where did I see God today?

Use these questions to not only help you assess what happened today but to also help you get mentally and spiritually prepared for tomorrow.

Look for 3 Good Things

Since our minds are habitually set to look for the negative…set a goal of  noticing three good things throughout the day.

My mom has been a Pre-K teacher for many years. Once when I was in her classroom I noticed a poster on the wall that said “B.U.G.

She used it to reward students who were “caught Being Unusually Good”! In essence, all day long, she looked for the good behaviors and attitudes they exhibited instead of focusing on the negative ones.

I wonder what might happen if we spent time looking for 3 Unusually Good Things – how we might see God miraculously throughout our day!
